Samui is a gulf island with distinct beaches — Chaweng, Lamai, Bophut, Maenam — and villas in the hills between them. This note is for people set on an island who have compared it with Phuket honestly.

Where agencies have published homes, they appear on the Koh Samui marketplace. Phuket is the deepest catalog today. Other cities grow as agencies list.

Koh Samui as a place to rent

Samui is a gulf island with distinct beaches — Chaweng, Lamai, Bophut, Maenam — and villas in the hills between them.

The airport is on the island, which makes it easier than Krabi’s islands and different from Phuket’s scale.

Beaches differ sharply. Chaweng is not Maenam.
Villas and condos both exist.
A car or scooter is part of the rent.
Rainy season differs from the Andaman coast.
Services are good and not infinite.

Pros and cons

What works

Island with an airport.
Beach choice.
A long-stay community in parts of Bophut and Maenam.
You can rent a house with a view.

What to weigh

Hill roads.
Tourist pricing in Chaweng.
Thinner job market than Bangkok.
Comparing it casually with Phuket wastes a year.

What it tends to cost

Cost	Typical range
1-bed	THB 15,000–40,000 / month
Villa	THB 40,000–150,000 / month
Scooter or car	Budget it
Power on a villa	THB 3,000–8,000 / month

Ranges are typical 2026 asking bands for orientation. Confirm the city and the unit.

How it sits in Thailand

Compare the national picture in best cities and the lease basics in Thailand long-term rentals.

Day-to-day life

Fisherman’s Village and a quiet beach are both available. Pick one as the default week.

Market notes

Short-stay demand is real in high season. Net yield still has to survive the rest of the year and the hill-road maintenance.

How Voivera fits

Voivera’s Thailand marketplace is the country catalog. An inquiry goes to the agency named on the card. If a city is still thin, that is honest: list when you are ready, and read the guide while you wait.

Next step

Spend a few days in Koh Samui on a weekday, then enquire on a specific home rather than a neighborhood slogan.
