Kamala is a single bay with a village behind it. The beach is calmer than Patong and less polished than Laguna. Headlands cut it off, which is both the charm and the traffic constraint. This guide is for couples and small families who want a walkable bay and can live with a hilly coast road.

Ranges below are typical asking levels, not a quote. When you are ready to look at real homes, Voivera’s Phuket marketplace lists agency homes with a named contact.

Kamala in brief

Kamala is a single bay with a village behind it. The beach is calmer than Patong and less polished than Laguna. Headlands cut it off, which is both the charm and the traffic constraint.

The 2004 tsunami is part of local memory. Newer beachfront building follows setback rules. Ask an agent what floor and what setback you are actually renting.

One main beach, with cafes and a market street just inland.
Patong is the next bay south. Surin and Bang Tao are north.
The coast road is winding. Rainy-season shortcuts flood.
Condo towers are fewer than in Patong. Houses climb the hills.
A scooter is enough for the village. A car is better for schools.

Pros and cons

What works

A proper swimming beach without Patong’s bar street.
You can walk to food. You do not need a mall for Tuesday night.
Rents often sit between Patong condos and Bang Tao villas.
Hill houses get views. Beach-road condos get the walk.

What to weigh

The coast road is slow at 5 p.m.
Hill homes mean steep driveways in the rain.
Less new condo stock, so choice moves slowly.
Some older beach apartments are dark and dated.

What it tends to cost

Cost	Typical range
1-bedroom condo, long stay	THB 20,000–45,000 / month
3-bedroom house, long stay	THB 55,000–140,000 / month
Utilities	THB 2,500–7,000 / month
Grab to Patong	Often under THB 300

Treat these as high-season asking bands for a furnished long stay. Green-season and one-year leases often land lower. Deposits of two months are common. Get the inventory and the meter readings in the lease.

Compare it with nearby areas

Patong is the next bay if you want nightlife and accept the noise. Surin is the step up in price. Read the area comparison if you are still choosing a coast.

Day-to-day life

Days are beach, a gym, and the market road. Nights are restaurants rather than clubs. Families with small children tend to prefer this over Patong.

The expat circle is smaller than Rawai’s. You will see the same cafes. That is a feature if you want a village and a bug if you want anonymity.

Market notes

Kamala’s rental market is mixed: a few condo buildings, many private houses, and a short-stay layer in high season. Year leases are negotiable from May.

Investment stock is thinner than Bang Tao. Buy what you would live in. A view house with a bad driveway will sit empty.

How Voivera fits

Voivera is a catalog, not a landlord. Kamala homes that agencies choose to publish show up on the Phuket page with price, photos, and the agency name. Your inquiry goes to that agency.

Pair this page with the long-term rental guide before you transfer a deposit.

Next step

Walk Kamala on a weekday afternoon, not only at sunset. Then shortlist homes on Voivera and ask the agency for a one-year figure, what is included, and who holds the deposit.
